Frugal Summer Fun

Frugal Summer Fun

June 29, 2017
How are your summer vacation plans coming?  If you're like me, you haven't made them because of financial reasons.  We had thoughts of a beach trip, but hotels on the beach are so pricey!  This type of trip would need to be in the off-season to be affordable for our family.

What are some good ways to have summer fun without spending much money?  Here are a few ideas  that I have found:

*Check your local Park & Recreation Dept: Classes in almost anything that you could think of,  many are free or cheap

*Public libraries offer free programs: book clubs, music programs, volunteering, and more

*National Parks: Free days are sometimes available, cheap fun, lakes, camping, picnics, etc

*Day trips: check with your local tourism board or online, explore your area for museums,  parks, arts, sports, tours, concerts, and outdoor movies

*Whatever interests you or your family can be fun.  If you love baseball, look for a local game.   Even if it's just a free kid's game, it can be exciting to go cheer on the children.  Finding a  picturesque park and taking a picnic can make a beautiful memory!

It doesn't take a lot of money to enjoy your summer.  Don't fret over not being able to make huge vacation plans.  The best vacations are the ones where you smile, relax, and don't have credit card debt.

HSLDA Online Classes for Homeschool: Review

There are many ways that homeschool students can take high-school courses online.  When I discovered the HSLDA Online Academy booth at the HEAV Convention, I was pleasantly surprised!  This was a new program to me.  HSLDA has such a vast amount of resources for homeschoolers.  They are known for being a Christian organization, but even secular homeschoolers can find resources, too.

Each year that we homeschooled, we were members of this organization.  The support and member benefits would fill at least one post alone.  Please take the time to check this out and consider joining.
The online classes are taught by master teachers with many years of experience.   There are also AP classes available.  At the end of the AP classes, students can take the AP test and then possibly test out of early college classes.  Here are some of the HSLDA AP results in 2016:

Anniversary #33

Anniversary #33

June 28, 2017
It's a true honor to be married for 33 years to my husband.  33 years is a long time and we've been through everything together.  We've had wonderful times and raised 3 fantastic kids!  Having good times and hard times is part of our lives, and I wouldn't change anything  (except some of the pain).

My husband is the man that was perfect for me and I'm sure that God had him picked out for me.  We've both grown a lot over these years and our love is stronger than ever, even if our bodies aren't.  I pray that we have many more good years together.  Happy Anniversary to us.
